A Promise for Tomorrow follows three women as they join forces to gain readership for a struggling newspaper on the home front during the WWII years. They combine their efforts to save the paper, and to support each other. We also gain glimpses into their personal lives.

My Thoughts:

Are you a completist of any author?

I’m a Lesley Eames completist, and I’m thrilled to begin a new series, The Newspaper Girls. I loved her Wartime Bookshop series, and now we’re venturing into newspapers. Are you a completist of any author? I have a few on my completist list.

Who are the main characters?

I adore stories of women helping women. In A Promise for Tomorrow, we are introduced to three women who will support and encourage each other during these difficult war years. Jenny loses her job and decides her only option is to move with her mom. She manages to land a job as editor for the local newspaper. The newspaper is struggling, and Jenny is determined to change things around. She meets and hires Eleanor to work as a photographer. Even though Eleanor is inexperienced, she has the artistic vision that Jenny feels will improve the newspaper. They enlist the help of the fashionable Lolanthe who has fresh ideas that will attract women subscribers. The first problem they face is a possible saboteur who might want the newspaper to fail.

Are you on board for this new series?

I adore WWII home front stories, and I love themes of women supporting women, and I know this author writes this subgenre and theme well. My expectations are high for a series featuring three independent, brave, feisty women supporting each other during the difficult years on the home front during WWII.

Recommending A Promise for Tomorrow:

Fans of Lesley Eames will want to jump on board for installment #1 of this new series! The characters are interesting, and I think you’ll enjoy following them as they embark on newspaper careers.
