Charlotte and Joshua become reluctant allies in their quests to save a brother and a home. Adventure, danger, political turmoil, harshness of nature, and family drama are plentiful alongside some sweet romantic tension.
My Thoughts:
Action and Drama
Fans of page-turning action, drama, and thriller vibes will find a great to appreciate in this compelling story. Charlotte and Jonathan come from very different backgrounds, and it was interesting how they navigated these differences and misunderstandings to work together. They make a dynamic team. This action-packed story doesn’t neglect thoughtful themes such as forgiveness, family loyalty, friendship, and faith.
Canadian History
It’s a welcome change in my reading when I pick up a Canadian author who captures some Canadian history. In this case, the Rebellions of 1837. Even though we’re neighboring countries, I lack historical knowledge.
Likable Characters
I enjoyed Charlotte and Joshua and thought the author developed the characters thoughtfully. Charlotte, at first impulsive and naive, exhibits significant character growth. Both demonstrate determination and family loyalty.
Although there are a couple of recurring characters from The Lawyer and the Laundress, this is not a sequel and you can read this easily as a stend-alone.
Recommending The Heiress and the Woodsman:
Fans of action-packed stories with likeable and determined multi-layered main characters who turn to their faith in difficult times will want to add The Heiress and the Woodsman to their TBRs. If you enjoyed The Lawyer and the Laundress, you will enjoy this one, as well. Sign me up for everything from this author!

Meet the Author of The Heiress and the Woodsman, Christine Hill Suntz
Christine Hill Suntz knew she wanted to write novels the day she finished Anne of Green Gables, and she’s been lost in her imagination ever since. Her love of language led her to study French and German and pursue a graduate degree in Comparative Literature before finding a home teaching high school French. Her work has won numerous prizes, including the 2022 ACFW Genesis competition.
Christine lives in Ontario on a hobby farm with her family, a flock of chickens, one attack rooster, and a herd of entitled goats. When she’s not writing or teaching, she enjoys trying out historical recipes on her (mostly) willing family.
