September 2024 reading is a wrap! Did you have a memorable reading month?

September 2024 Reading Wrap Up

September 2024 Reading Wrap Up (collage of covers)

Out of 12 books completed, I had one 4.5-star read, seven 4-star reads, three 3-3.5-star reads, and one 2-star read.

My most engaging and memorable read was a well-written and multi-layered women’s fiction title, Christmas at the Little Paris Bookshop by Rebecca Raisin.

ARC=Advanced Readers Copy (complimentary copy for review before pub date)

4.5 Stars. (ARC) Contemporary Fiction, Women’s Fiction, Women Supporting Women, Book About Books, Festive. One of my most enjoyable women’s fiction reads of the year. My review of Little Paris Hotel here.

4 Stars. Historical Fiction (WWI), Smith College Relief Unit, Women Supporting Women, Friendship, France (1917). Not yet reviewed. (I’ve heard the audio is good!)

4 Stars. (ARC) Contemporary Fiction, Book About Books, Friendship, Grief. England. My review of Book Swap here.

4 Stars. (ARC) Historical Fiction, Complicated Family Drama, Regency Romance (firmly closed door), #3 in the loosely connected Devonshire Shores series, Women’s Fiction, Sisters, England, Review coming soon. (Pub Date: 12/3/2024) You might be interested in my review of the first book in the series, Sisters of Seaview.

4 Stars. Literary Fiction (well written and interesting in parts), (heavily) Character Driven, Friendship, Hiking. English Countryside. Not reviewed. (Harold Fry and The Salt Path vibes)

4 Stars. (ARC) Historical Fiction (#4 in the loosely connected Belles of London series), Regency Romance (firmly closed door), Women Supporting Women, Friendship, Physical Disability. London. Review coming soon. (Pub Date: 11/19/2024)

4 Stars. (ARC) Contemporary Fiction, Young Adult Fiction, Coming of Age, Complicated Family Drama, Art, DNA Quest. UK. Review coming soon. (Pub Date: 10/1/2024)

4 Stars. (complimentary copy courtesy of author) Historical Fiction, WWII (home front), Spies, Art Theft. England. Review coming soon.

3.5-4 Stars. Contemporary Fiction, Quirky. Mistaken Identity, Complicated Family, Found Family, Mature Characters. Australia. My review of Frederick Fife here.

3 Stars. (ARC) Contemporary Women’s Fiction, Slow-burn Romance (opposites attract), Entrepreneurship. Bookshop. Cornwall. Review coming soon. Pub Date: 10/28/2024

3 Stars. Nonfiction, Memoir. Underwhelmed with this classic, but happy to check the box. I was discouraged when I read a critical review indicating some evidence is available supporting the theory that Steinbeck fictionalized certain parts of his journey. Not reviewed.

2 Stars. (ARC) Literary Fiction, Several Short Stories and a Novella. (In translation from French) This is the third short story collection I’ve read this year and I’ve not connected with any of them. Maybe I’m not the right audience. In this collection, there was just one story that I found memorable and compelling. All the others I skimmed. Not yet reviewed.

  1. It looks like you had another great reading month, Carol! I’m nearly halfway through Christmas at the Little Paris Hotel and I’m really enjoying it. Manon (I hope that’s how it is spelled – I’m listening to the audiobook) is quite a character!
Have another great reading month in October. ๐Ÿ’–๐Ÿ“š

  2. Not a bad month, Carol. I also enjoyed Christmas at the Little Paris Hotel. I listened to and enjoyed The Band of Sisters back when it first came out. I agree, the audio was wonderful. I hope October is good to you.

    • Iโ€™ve read many good 4 star books this yearโ€ฆ.but the stand out 5 stars have been scarce. Every month I hope for one. I dread making my best of year list โ€ฆIโ€™m usually having to cull the list now Iโ€™m facing a shortfall.
