June 2024 reading is a wrap! Did you have a satisfactory reading month?

June 2024 Reading Wrap Up

June 2024 Reading Wrap Up (collage of covers)

I had a satisfactory and interesting reading month. Out of 12 books completed, I had one 5-star reads, seven 4-star reads, three 3-3.5-star reads, and one 1-star read. Add to that, one DNF.

My most memorable fiction read in June is By Her Own Design by Piper Huguley because I love biographical historical fiction.

ARC=Advanced Readers Copy (complimentary copy for review before pub date)

5 Stars. Biographical Historical Fiction (Do you know who designed Jacqueline Kenedy’s wedding dress?). Memorable and inspirational. Diverse Read. Find my full review of By Her Own Design here.

4 Stars. Contemporary Fiction. Complicated Family Drama. Net yet reviewed.

4 Stars. (ARC) Historical Fiction/Mystery. Middle Grade/Young Adult. WWII (Bletchley Park). Pub Date: 1/8/2024

4 Stars. (ARC) Historical Fiction. Women’s Fiction. Arranged Marriage/Romance. Pub Date: 8/6/2024

4 Stars. Contemporary Fiction. Neurodivergent Character. Net yet reviewed.

4 Stars. Women’s Fiction. Baking Competition. My review of Mrs. Quinn here.

4 Stars. (ARC) Contemporary Women’s Fiction. Romance (open door). Surfing (Hawaii/California). It will be interesting to see what Ackerman’s ardent histfic fans think of this one! Pub Date: 11/19/2024

3.5-4 Stars. ARC. Contemporary Fiction. Women’s Fiction. Romance. Christmas Themed. Pub Date: 10/1/2024.

3.5 Stars. (ARC) Historical Fiction. Memoir-like. Character-driven and reflective. Not yet reviewed.

3 Stars. Literary Fiction. DNF at 60% (counting it “read” because I finished more than 50%) The short stories were mostly OK (some better than others), but the novella never captured my attention. Many readers are looking forward to the novella because it follows the main character from Rules of Civility.

2-3 Stars. Contemporary Fiction. Women’s Fiction. Complicated Family Drama/Romance. I’m having difficulty nailing down a star rating for this one. While Waxman can write a witty page turner, I was not captivated by this one. Not reviewed. Other reader friends have loved it, so I’m a definite outlier.

1 Star. Nonfiction. Collection of anecdotes from booksellers and librarians. Repetitive after the first few. Nothing new or novel or thought-provoking. I skimmed most of it hoping something would capture my attention. Meh in my opinion. Not reviewed.

It’s me again, DNFing a highly buzzed book. At 25% I couldn’t care less about the repetitive plot or the main character. I prefer realistic fiction so that explains part of my dissatisfaction. I should have known better. But FOMO strikes again. I had to see for myself. Thankfully, I borrowed this from the library which makes DNFing easier. Lots of readers are enjoying this….remember no two persons read the same book and reading is a personal experience. Back to historical fiction!

  1. Hi, Carol – Thank you again for your well-written, candid reviews. I’m disappointed to hear that Table for Two never captured your attention. It is a book that I have on my long TBR list. <3

    • Lots of others are loving it! I did enjoy a couple of the short stories! Heโ€™s a brilliant writer! I hope it works for you! Iโ€™m sure it was my mood!

  2. Not a bad month, Carol. I wasn’t sure about Husbands, so haven’t rushed to get my hands on it. I think I will pass for now.

  3. Pity about the book by booksellers and librarians didn’t work out. It might have seemed like a good idea initially but they just ran out of material
