In this cozy mystery, amateur detectives Miss Juliet Tilney and Jonathan Darcy combine efforts in an attempt to prevent the murder of Lady Catherine de Bourgh. The story unfolds at the Rosings Park estate and a large number of suspects are considered.

My Thoughts:

Quietly and Gently Told

Fans of quietly and gently told cozy mysteries will appreciate this story set in the world of Jane Austen. Readers of Austen will recognize characters which adds another layer of interest. Even though this is the third in a series. Each book can be read as a stand-alone.

Sloooooow Burn Romance

If you enjoy slow, slow burn romance, you will like the romantic possibility of Juliet and Jonathan. I really hoped that this story would move the relationship forward just a little, but we seem to be spinning our wheels here. Juliet and Jonathan spend a great deal of time contemplating the possibility and wondering about the other one, but by story’s end we end up just about where the previous installment left off. Part of this can be attributed to Jonathan who seems to be neurodivergent. This lack of progress in the romance department disappoints me a bit because I was expecting more.

Characters to Love

You will love Juliet and Jonathan. They are earnest and clever and they work well as a team. In fact, you will love Jane Austen’s characters who take turns appearing in this series. It seems that each book might focus on expanding characters from a different Austen title. In this way, the series might fall into the “fan fiction” category.

Recommending The Perils of Lady Catherine de Bourgh

This cozy mystery series is perfect for fans of Jane Austen and want to spend more time in her world. The author’s writing fits nicely with Austen’s style as she reimagines and expands Austen’s work. If you love Austen, consider this series!
