Set in 1943, The Codebreaker’s Secret by Sara Ackerman is a story about Isabel and the codebreakers who work in the “dungeon” at Station HYPO in Pearl Harbor. They are racing to retrieve data from the airwaves to help bring down the enemy. Isabel is grieving the loss of her brother as she faces sexism and other difficult working conditions. Circumstances look a little brighter when she meets her brother’s best friend, a hotshot pilot. A second timeline takes place in 1965 as journalist Lu Freitas covers the grand opening of a glamorous Mauna Kea Beach Hotel and meets a veteran photographer. As a team, they uncover a secret from the war days.
Heartfelt, compelling, page turning…

QOTD:
Do you love histfic with a side of suspense?
Another great choice for throwback Thursday, Carol. I love Sara Ackerman’s books.
Her newest is really really differentโฆ..contemporary spicy romanceโฆ.I wonder how it will go over with her fans. She had such a great niche!
I see it is still set in Hawaii. I love her historical fiction, not sure about a romance though.
Half Hawaii/half California. Some in Australia (I think). All on the waves. If she is transitioning to open door romance (still tastefully handled) I may want to rethink her as an auto-buy author. I signed up for the arc without thinkingโฆsheโs so automatic for me. Sheโs always include a side of romance but sheโs moving to another levelโฆwhich a lot of readers might love who think her romances are too tame.
I like the tame romance, but we may be in the minority.
