My Summary:
Thanks #NetGalley @BoldwoodBooks for a complimentary eARC of #TheResistanceGirls upon my request. All opinions are my own.
In 1942, Wren (Serenity) receives a mysterious invitation to join a secret army of women who are part of a resistance movement to identify German spies and be prepared if Hitler invades England. Wren is eager to escape her controlling father and do her part in the war effort. She completes the rigorous training program, makes some friendships, and is ready for her undercover assignment. Real danger presents itself when she decides to participate in a mission to rescue her twin brother, who is behind enemy lines.
My Thoughts:
Structure
The first part of the story focuses on Wren’s recruitment and rigorous training, where she meets other young women with the same goals and forms a few significant friendships. Themes include grit and determination. The second half of the story follows Wren in her undercover work. Mystery, suspense, intrigue, danger, and romance turn the mood of the story into a page-turner. The resistance movement is an aspect of WWII that continually intrigues me. I wonder if I would have been brave enough.
Intrigue, Mystery, Suspense
I love histfic with sides of intrigue, mystery, and suspense. The story culminates in a risky attempt to rescue her twin brother behind enemy lines. We grow in our admiration for Wren and cheer for her safety and success.
Side of Romance
Fans of romance will appreciate a small side of romance. Wren needs to keep her undercover work a secret from her love interest, but it’s complicated because he’s also her boss and her twin brother’s best friend. Layers of intrigue.
Recommending The Resistance Girls:
If you love reading about strong women, the war effort on the home front, and undercover work in the resistance with sides of romance, intrigue, and suspense, you will want Resistance Girls on your TBR.
My Rating: 4 Stars

Meet the Author of The Resistance Girls, Alice G. May
This author’s name seemed familiar and when I looked her up, I discovered that she has a How to Draw Giraffes book that I featured in my Book Club Kit for West with Giraffes!

Alice G. May writes contemporary, historical and saga fiction. Her new series, The Resistance Girls is inspired by the true story of a highly trained secret army of women working undercover to protect British coastal communities during World War Two.
Having always dreamed of being a writer, Alice finally put pen to paper in her forties. She lives in the New Forest on the Dorset/Hampshire border and gains inspiration from walking both in the forest and along the coast.
Alice also writes non-fiction, including a memoir (The House That Sat Down Trilogy) and a colourful series of ‘How to Draw The Alice May Way’ books, suitable for all ages. She loves public speaking and regularly attends writing festivals, libraries and social groups to give presentations.
