March 2024 reading is a wrap! Did you have a productive reading month?

March 2024 Reading Wrap Up

March 2024 Reading Wrap Up (collage of covers)

I had an eclectic reading month. Out of 11 books completed, I had one 5-star read, seven 4-star reads, and three 3-star reads. I did have one DNF.

My most memorable fiction read in March is James by Percival Everett. Don’t miss this Huck Finn reimagining!

ARC=Advanced Readers Copy (complimentary copy for review before pub date)

5 Stars. Historical Fiction. Reimagining a Classic from Jim’s point of view. My review of James here.

4 Stars. Nonfiction. Spiritual Memoir/Essays. Uplifting, authentic, and transparent. Not yet reviewed.

4 Stars. (ARC) Contemporary women’s fiction. Light reading. Sweet Romance (closed door). Pub Date: 6/4/24. Review coming soon.

4 Stars. (ARC) Historical Fiction (1918 and 1941). Page-turning mystery. Pub Date: 4/2/24. Review coming soon.

4 Stars. Nonfiction. Essays. Interesting data analysis of five generations. (do not recommend audio). My review of Generations here.

4 Stars. Middle-Grade Historical Fiction (Newbery Award winner). Diverse Read. Not yet reviewed.

4-5 Stars. (ARC) Nonfiction. Biblical History/Theology. This is well-written and could be used in a seminary course. I lingered in some sections and skimmed others. Robinson is a beautiful and masterful writer. My husband is loving it and using it as a study guide to slowly and methodically work his way through the book of Genesis.

4 Stars. Nonfiction. Essays. I enjoyed some parts. If you have visited or live in the areas mentioned, I think it would be especially enjoyable. Not reviewed.

3 Stars. Classic American Literature. I wanted to complete a reread of Huck Finn before starting James. I enjoyed the beginning and the end, but I skimmed over the entire middle section dealing with the King and Duke characters. They get tiresome quickly. I’m glad I did a quick reread to refresh my memory but it’s not essential for appreciating James (see my review of James here.) By the way, H.F. is FREE on Project Gutenberg.

3 Stars. Women’s Contemporary Fiction. Short Story/Novella. Cute meet-cute. Closed-door romance. Not reviewed.

3 Stars. (ARC) Contemporary Women’s Fiction. Romance (Steamy and Open Door). I skipped over the spicy parts to the engaging storyline. Pub Date: 4/30/2024.

DNF 53%. 2 Stars. Middle-Grade Historical Fiction. (Newbery Award Winner). As with many books I DNF, I simply lost interest. It felt older than MG. Also, it has witchcraft/magic which is not to my taste.

  1. Looks like an up and down month for you Carol. I am glad to see that James was a 5 star read. I am waiting for my library to get a copy. Maybe I will read Huck Finn in the meantime to refresh my memory as well. Happy April tomorrow.

  2. You definitely had a stellar reading month in March! Looking back over the entire list boggles my mind. I’m enjoying The Memory of Lavender and Sage, but it has to go back to the library tomorrow. I’ll get back on the waitlist so I can finish reading it. Hidden Yellow Stars has to be returned to the library because I didn’t even get to start it. Ugh! Too many books came in at the same time! Currently on the waitlist for James and The Berlin Letters… among many others. So many good books out there! I love reading your reviews, Carol, even though you wreak havoc with my TBR!
