My Summary:
In 1942, eighteen-year-old Sadie and her parents are forced to flee the Krakow Ghetto to avoid being sent to a concentration camp. They seek refuge in the sewer system beneath the city. One day, Sadie looks up through the grate and makes eye contact with a young Polish woman, Ella. Putting her fears aside, Ella begins to aid Sadie by bringing her a bit of food. The story follows their friendship as Ella helps Sadie in any way that she can.
Strong themes of friendship, sacrifice, hope, loyalty, adversity, kindness, endurance, and survival...

Great pick, Carol. This was an emotional story and one that I learned a lot about. Some of the history we read about it definitely not pleasant.
I’m near the saturation point with WWII fiction! Then along comes another unique point of view!
I agree, Carol. I keep saying I am taking a break, but then I see a book that is about someone I don’t know about, or a place or event that is different and there I go.
This historic kind of story sounds interesting.
It’s informative but it’s also one of the more emotionally difficult stories I’ve read.
I think you already know that I won’t read this because I knew someone who survived the Krakow sewers and as per his account, she’s got many things wrong here. But great for participating in my meme and link party!
I think I’ve heard similar complaints about the author.
