December 2021 Reading Wrap Up
How was your December reading?
Welcome to the last monthly wrap up of the year!
My December reading consisted of mostly light, escapist reads.
Out of 8 books completed, I had one 5-star read, six 4-star reads, and one 3-star read.
I’ve now read 119 books towards my year end goal of 100. Do you set a year-end goal?

What a shame that the latest installment of The No 1 Ladies Detective Agency was a 3 star for you. I read the first dozen or so books in this series, and I thought it was unique. The series is a throwback to a gentler times. If you like historical cozy mysteries, I suggest the Crown Colony Mystery series by Ovidia Yu. I read the first one (The Frangipani Tree Mystery) this month and quite enjoyed it. It’s set in Singapore in the 1930s, and the cast of characters include both locals and expats. I think it accurately portrays life in Singapore during these times. I lived in Hong Kong for 13 years so can appreciate some of the behavior… except for the murder, of course!
December was a bumper reading month for me. I read 15 books, mainly romance. Eleven of the books were Christmas themed, and they were fairly short. Included in the numbers are four audiobooks. Go me! Let’s just say I’m ready to read some historical and literary fiction in January.
Happy New Year to you and your family. I live in South Florida where Covid is out of control so I’m having a very quiet holiday weekend. Plan to dig out the Thanksgiving leftovers from the freezer for a New Year’s dinner.
Well…the Ladies Detective series is losing some of its appeal for me I think. This one was actually better than the last two! It’s still a comfort read and a fall habit! They are the gentlest of stories!

I read The Reading List earlier this year and enjoyed it. I need to get back to The No. 1 Ladies Detective series.
My favorite December read was A Circle of Quiet by Madeleine L’Engle.

There’s lots to love about The Reading List…..but I couldn’t understand the purpose of the random characters chapters.

I read Rhythm of War by Brandon Sanderson in December and that took most of the month. It’s almost 1300 pages so I’m proud of myself.
Wow! That’s worth at least 3 books! We need extra credit for tomes!
