Christmas Wishes for the Great Western Railway Girls by Jane Lark (#4 in a series)

Historical Fiction (WWII Home Front), Women’s Fiction, Christmas, Women Supporting Women, sweet sides of romance

WWII is taking its toll on the Home Front. Lily, Maggie, and Catherine each face challenges at the factory and at home. When the American GIs arrive in 1942, the women work hard to prepare and present a festive Christmas pantomime. Through the hardest times, their friendships sustain them, and they find renewed hope and claim joy where they can.

One highlight of the story for me is that we see more of Joe, and Catherine finds her HEA.

Fans of WWII home front fiction and women supporting women will appreciate this series. Best read in order.

The Cotswold Christmas Bookshop by Jill Steeples

Women’s Fiction, (Second-chance) Sweet Romance, Books About Books/Bookshops, New beginnings, Christmas

After Isla loses her high-profile publishing job (redundancy), she leaves for the Cotswolds to spend the holidays with her parents. To pass the time, she volunteers at Finches, the independent bookshop where she worked as a teenager. She loves the owners and they give her an increasingly free rein to decorate, revamp the store, and work with the customers. Things become complicated when she renews her acquaintance with her high school boyfriend Charlie. As the owners contemplate selling the store, does Isla have an opportunity for a new beginning?

Fans of books about books and bookstore, second chance romance, and new beginnings will enjoy this festive read.

The Perfect Gift by Sarah Bennett (#4 in a loosely connected series)

The Halfmoon Quay series is loosely connected and follows the Penrose family. Each installment can be read as a stand-alone, but you will probably want to read each one as you fall in love with this large and supportive family. Each installment features one of the brothers. Filled with relatable characters, charm, and small-town vibes, The Perfect Gift starts off with a fun “meet-cute” and culminates in a festive family Christmas celebration.

Fans of loveable large families, unlikely romance, and small-town settings will enjoy this heartfelt story.
