Welcome to #ThrowBackThursday where I highlight an older review or post a current review of a backlist title. This week I’m featuring compelling historical fiction, The Underground Library by Jennifer Ryan.
I’m linking up with Davida @ The Chocolate Lady’s Book Review Blog for #ThrowbackThursday.
My Summary:
The Underground Library is told from three perspectives and is a “saving the books” story as bombs rain down on London during the Blitz. When bombs destroy the library, it forces the three women to salvage what they can and move stacks to the local underground station. As the city’s residents take shelter, the books keep up their spirits.
Women’s fiction in a historical context…

That’s an interesting angle on WW2. I wonder if it reflects something that actually happened
Not sure if moving the books is historical but life during the Blitz is. I looked back at the authorโs notes and sheโs not too specific. The one event she does mention is the tragedy at Bethnal Green.
I remember adding this book to my TBR when it first came out, but I’d forgotten about it. Thanks for the reminder.
My pleasure! ๐๐ท
This sounds like an interesting book. It reminds me of one I read about one by Mike Thomson: “Syria’s Secret Library: The True Story of How a Besieged Syrian Town Found Hope” where some young men build a library in the midst of their war. People are always amazing.

Yes, so many interesting and amazing people! Thanks for the rec!
You’re welcome. I’m sure you’ll like it.
I just checked and I had added this book to my TBR shelf back when it came out. Thanks for the reminder, Carol. I enjoy homefront stories and books about books, especially saving them. I will have to get this one in my reading rotation.
TBR worthy! Enjoy!
