My Summary:

Lisa Genova explores the brain’s ability to remember, how to store memories and retrieve them, and how to improve them. One important takeaway in the book is that most memory failures are absolutely normal. Genova explains why our memories fail and why, sometimes, it just doesn’t matter. She also shows us strategies for improving our memories. Overall, it’s a reassuring read for more seasoned individuals experiencing memory lapses. She also includes healthy eating and other lifestyle tips.

“If we want to remember something, above all else, we need to notice what is going on…Noticing requires two things: perception (seeing, hearing, smelling, feeling) and attention…You can only capture and retain what you pay attention to.”

    • My husband has dementia and he’s read the book three times and found it helpful to a certain point….until you can’t follow through with the strategies. Experiencing the stages with someone is really challenging day to day. It’s a fascinating read that will help everyone understand how memory works.

  1. You have just reminded me Carol, that when I first read your review, I requested the local library purchase a copy. I need to follow up as I have never seen it. ๐Ÿ’๐Ÿ’–๐Ÿ“š
