Favorite Snacks #TopTenTuesday #bookx #booksky #bookblogger #readinglife

Let’s talk about favorite snacks today! I love to snack while I read, snack while I blog, snack while watching TV…I could skip breakfast and lunch and snack the day away! I think I snack more when I’m blogging than when I’m reading or watching TV. There’s something about my jaw moving that stimulates my brain and increases productivity! Do you snack? When do you snack? Do you have a favorite snack?

The tricky part is staying within my designated calorie count for the day! On an ordinary day, I allow 300c for breakfast, 400-500c for dinner, and three 100c snacks throughout the afternoon. Most of my snacks are healthy (nuts, fruit, string cheese, veggies, etc). But I don’t deprive myself either. If I want to take myself to the corner bagel shop for an everything bagel with cream cheese and read for an hour, I do (just not every day or every week!). I adjust my calorie intake for the day by making an occasional indulgent snack a meal replacement or by eating lightly at other times. Are you a calorie counter?

(my choice: favorite snacks)

I limit myself to ONE serving (12 pieces) per day.

peanut m&ms

Straight from the freezer, one half cup of frozen blueberries.
(Also from the freezer but not shown is (shelled) edamame…I love to eat half a cup of frozen edamame.)

A handful of nuts a day is a staple in my snack menu.

Almonds

One is perfectly satisfying, yummy, and refreshing on an occasional hot summer day!

I love veggies (cooked or raw), but a slight dip into hummus turns raw veggies into a treat!

Tangerine is my favorite flavor.

Outshine Bars

Freshly popped and buttery! (small serving)

I love cookies, but peanut butter cookies are irresistible! Especially the ones with a chocolate “Kiss” in the center!

More than a snack…calorie wise, a meal replacement! I allow myself ONE per summer!

From my favorite local bagel store! Again, a meal replacement!

  1. I could snack but I donโ€™t as I think I would be continually eating๐Ÿ˜€ My most likely time to snack is in the evening when Iโ€™m reading and then it would probably be either fruit or chocolate (or maybe both๐Ÿ˜€)

  2. You know you’ve made me hungry now don’t you?! ๐Ÿ˜„ Crisps are my go to snack which I’m afraid isn’t very healthy. Salt and vinegar, pickled onion or sweet chilli are my favourite flavours.

  3. I love snacks and would gobble up nearly all of these! Iโ€™m also trying to lose weight like you seem to be, so a lot of my snacks are things like hardboiled eggs, pickles, or fresh fruit and vegetables.

    Frozen blueberries are wonderful, though.

  4. I am a sweets snacker, so must be very careful what I have in the house. I do enjoy fruit and will have that when I am craving something sweet. I will have to try frozen blueberries. Great list, Carol.

    • I remember in past decades always cracking the nuts. Very satisfying and it really cuts down the rate of consumption! Love pistachios!

    • Now that I think about it, I think I saw that post and then the topic popped into my brain when I sat down to write my top ten tuesday post! That’s funny! Thanks for the inspiration!

  5. I’m actually not a big snacker. My husband is, though! He snacks constantly, especially while watching tv. We both love M&M’s. His favorite are the peanut ones and mine are the peanut butter ones. I count points on Weight Watchers, so I try to not overindulge TOO often, although I also have my weaknesses and do try not to deprive myself since that always backfires. Fun list, Carol!

    Happy TTT (on a Wednesday)!

  6. My favorite snack is my crazy mixed-up faux trail mix. Whatever I have in the house goes in a ziplock bag: Cheez-its (extra toasty) oyster crackers, ultra-thin pretzel sticks, nuts, dried fruit, Iโ€™ve even been known to throw in a handful of durkee onions. I usually allow myself one handful in the evening when Iโ€™m craving something salty. Iโ€™ll have to look for those Outshine Tangerine bars.
