Tomorrow (9/30) I’m having hip replacement surgery and will be taking a two-week hiatus. Prayers appreciated.
I may pop in to blog hop or return comments, but I have given myself permission to take a complete break and focus on recovery as well. We’ll see how it goes, but expect a quiet October here.
I have a stack of books to read, my regular podcasts to enjoy, and an ice machine. I have lovely support from my family and friends. I’m looking forward to being on the other side of this…and pain relief!

I’m well into recovery and feeling great! Surgery (anterior method) was easy and the dr was pleased. I’ve had very little discomfort. I was up walking the sane day, and after 3 days started giving up the walker. By day 4 I was walking unassisted. I was on pain pills for about 3 days but never experienced much pain. Swelling was more minimal than I imagined. I’m 10 days out from surgery and still have a small amount of swelling and the numbness has reduced in size but is still there. I highly recommend an ice therapy machine …especially useful at night for continual cooling. You can set a timer and I set it for 20 min on and 10 min off. It lasts about 6 hours. I used frozen water bottles for ice and kept rotating them. I’d advise not waiting for surgery. I was going to do it last year and then my mom died and it took a year to settle her estate. Then it took 2 months to get an appointment and another 4 months to wait for a surgery date. Those last few months were painful! It affected everything from standing, walking sitting, to sleeping as you probably know! I’m so happy with the surgery and the outcome. I highly recommend a dr who is experienced in the anterior method. I know you’ll be happy you did it!
