Virginia Evans is my current favorite debut author! She wrote eight novels before she published her first novel The Correspondent, and she deserves the Most Persistent Award! I’ve created a FREE Book Club Kit for The Correspondent.

Great choices! I loved The Correspondent and A Man Called Ove, wasn’t so keen on Homegoing. I think I’d need to have Matt Coyne’s Frank and Red on a debut list. Plus The Correspondent of course!

Fun list! I read and loved A MAN CALLED OVE and FAMILY OF SPIES (on your recommendation). Most of the others are on my TBR list, so I’ll get to them someday…

Going off-prompt was the better post, Carol. A 2010 debut sitting beside a 2026 one makes the point about staying power that a fresh-releases list can’t.
To answer the QOTD: Backman is the one I’d expect on most lists, and your own entry shows why — the debut still gets handed to people ahead of everything he wrote after.
