I’m linking up today with That Artsy Reader Girl for Top Ten Tuesday and tweaking the assigned prompt. Today’s topic is supposed to be ten new-to-me authors on my TBR. However, I don’t have that many books on my TBR and I certainly don’t have 10 new-to-me authors. So, I’m choosing to tweak the prompt and list 10 New-To-Me Authors I’ve Read so Far in 2026.

Sarah Damoff: The Burning Side
Wow! I just finished this 5-Star book. Highly recommended. I skipped The Bright Years by this author last year (despite the rave reviews) because I decided it wouldn’t match my reading tastes (perhaps too dysfunctional family), but now I think I need to revisit that decision. I love this author’s writing and will definitely check out her next one!
Beth Brower: The Unselected Journals of Emma M. Lion Vol. 1-8
I slowly became addicted to Emma M. Lion via the audio format of this 8-volume series (more to come).
Rachel Hochhouser: Lady Tremaine
A debut author. The reimagining of Cinderella.
Meg Mitchell Moore: Down with the Shipmans
A popular author whom I’ve never read. I need to remedy that.
Chrissie Walsh: The Herring Girl
I’ll be looking for more titles by this author.
Lavanya Lakshmi: Leave and Come Back
I loved this complicated family drama. Adding this author to my watch list.
Phillipa Ashley: The Distance Between Us
I enjoyed this sweet short story.
Shelley Noble: Sisters of Book Row
I love discovering a new-to-me histfic author.
Terah Shelton Harris: Where the Wildflowers Grow
A beautifully written story.
Christine Kuehn: Family of Spies
A debut author. I hope this author writes more nonfiction.

Good idea to change the focus to books you’ve read so far this year. I had a quick look at my reading this year and was surprised how many new to me authors I’ve tried. Not sure my brain is up to doing a post – the UK heatwave is so debilitating

It’s finally abated, so now we have lovely summer days which are not so hot that you can’t bear to be outdoors
I listened to the first Emma Lion and I thought, Okay. It was the same reaction I had to Theo of Golden. I wondered where all the hype was coming from.
The audio helped immensely! I tried vol 1 in print 3 times before switching to audio. There’s a great deal of filler but she’s a wonderful writer! I hope I’m alive to see the end of this planned series!

I’ve heard great things about the Emma M. Lion series! Also… HOW do you not have many books on your TBR? Mine won’t be finished until I’m at least 989 years old lol. My TTT
lol! I deleted my entire, unwieldy(digital) tbr in one rash moment a couple of years ago! I haven’t regretted it. Now I’m more careful with it and cull it every month! I knew I wouldn’t have 10 new authors on my small one. Word of mouth kept me invested in the Emma books and now I’m hooked like many others. Do the audio if you can! I managed to get them all from the library.
Wow, I was surprised, when I started counting, that I had 24 new-to-me authors on my list this year! And the 3 that made the most impact aren’t new authors in the world, they are modern classics writers! Zorah Neale Hurston, Wendell Berry and Ernest Gaines. I am reading Gaine’s A Lesson in Dying right now, and I am SOOO impressed.
Yes! There’s a reason so many classics endure! I try to read at least one a year. Thanks for sharing!

I absolutely loved 70% of it! The latter 30% takes a darker turn than I was prepared for and a bit over the top. But overall, well written and imagined….and page turning!
Ooo I do enjoy some darkness… So that might even be a good thing for me!

Ooh Beth Brower yes! Besides the Emma series, I have several of her other series on my TBR. The other authors and books look and sound intriguing to me as well so I hope you enjoy them once you get to them!

Hope I can get it. I can’t buy books right now–have to get them from the library. My car has to be rebult. GRRRRRRRR I live in rural Ohio–I MUST have a car.

There just comes a time in a car’s life when that is required. This time I think GM should do a recall, but they won’t. My daughter worked for Chevy at the time so I got a superb deal.

Great list, Carol. I’ve only read 2 of these authors, but have several of these books on my TBR shelf. My library is having longer and longer lists, but I guess that’s good because it means more people are using it.
Some of those wait lists are so long and move so slowly!
