A book list featuring books about “Home.” Do you have a favorite book about home?
Books About Home

I’m linking up today with That Artsy Reader Girl for TTT: Genre Freebie. Today’s prompt is a genre freebie. I’m drilling down into a subgenre or microgenre and listing books about Home. I’ve read each one of these, but I haven’t reviewed them all.

Turn Right at the Rainbow: A Diary of House Hunting, Happenstance, and Home by Roz Morris (ARC)
This is the book that inspired me to create a list of books about Home. In Turn Right at the Rainbow, Roz Morris shares her experience in buying a new home. Focused on the logistics of home buying, her reflections are funny, very British, and relatable. (Memoir)
Home by Marilynne Robinson
Part of the Gilead series, this story about a Prodigal Son’s return is filled with poignant and thoughtful reflections. (Literary Fiction)
The Art of Gathering: How We Meet and Why it Matters by Priya Parker
From business meetings to personal gatherings, the ideas for gathering people together are applicable to many situations. My review (linked in the title) reflects on how I noticed the concepts applied to my recent family reunion. (Nonfiction Essays)
The Little Book of Hygge by Meik Wiking
Delightful ideas for making your home warm, cozy, and inviting. (Nonfiction Essays)
Other Words For Home by Jasmine Warga
A tenderly told story about the immigrant experience. (Middle Grade Fiction)
Speak to Me of Home by Jeanine Cummins
An immigrant who longs for home is a central theme in this compelling story by the author of American Dirt. (Historical Fiction)
Joyful: The Surprising Power of Ordinary Things to Create Extraordinary Joy by Ingrid Fetell Lee
Enhance your entertainment and home environment by incorporating the aesthetic elements of design. (Nonfiction Essays)
Louisianna’s Way Home by Kate DiCamillo
A young girl in search of a forever home. (Middle Grade Fiction)
Anne’s House of Dreams by L.M. Montgomery
Anne’s House of Dreams might be my favorite installment of the Anne of Green Gables series. Anne and Gilbert marry and settle into their new home. (Young Adult Classic Fiction)
The Dutch House by Ann Patchett
When the house is like a character. (Character-driven Fiction)

I’ve only read one or two of these titles, but it is a good TTT theme.
Thanks! ๐ป
A lovely selection! I’d choose The House That Made Us by Alice Cavanagh – a gorgeous story.
Thanks for the rec! Iโll check it out! ๐ป
As an immigrant, I can say that the longing for home is real. I am fortunate enough to live close to where I moved from, and as such, am able to return when the occasion arises.

An interesting topic for this week, Carol. The only one I’ve read is The Dutch House.
Thanks Carla! ๐ป
That is a good question, I’ve never thought about “Home” books before! And I was so interested in “Turn Right at the Rainbow” that I ordered it immediately! Good price for Kindle! I have read a number of the books you listed, The Dutch House, Joyful, Speak to Me of Home (which I didn’t like nearly as well as American Dirt), The Art of Gathering (fascinating), and Home by Marilynne. And I love Kate di Camillo, I would love to read hers!
Wow! Youโve read so many! ๐ Thanks for sharing!
Later—I just finished Turn Right at the Rainbow and I gave it 5 stars!! I LOVE that stuff and I loved her writing!! Not so much the ending, but still 5 stars.
