Eek! Not read any of these and I like historical books!
All tbr worthy! ๐
I must get to The Girl with the Pearl Earring. Lovely recommendations Carol.
Thank you! ๐ป
Yiu e chosen three of my favourites – Pearl Earring, Hamnet and Homegoing. Canโt wait to see the film version of Hamnet!
Hamnet was so emotionalโฆI canโt imagine the movie. ๐ข๐
Yes, I love books set in the distant past. I havenโt read any of these yet, though.
All tbr worthy!
Thank you for this excellent list, Carol! I love that you’ve included books from different parts of the world and not just Europe. I was intrigued by the setting of *The Frozen River* and *Cloud Cuckoo Land* is one of my favourites. I’d definitely be interested in reading *Lady Tan’s Circle of Women* as well. Great post!
Thanks Teresa! It was a fun list to make!
I love historican fiction, but I don’t tend to read anything set before about 1800. Not sure why. I really should branch out! I have read THE FROZEN RIVER and THE GIRL WITH THE PEARL EARRING. Great list. I need to check some of these out.
Happy TTT!

It was fun to find the oldest settings on my shelf! Iโm surprised I found ten!
I often struggle with books set too far in the past. I think it has something to do with all of the classics I was forced to read in school.

๐ thereโs a definite difference between books written in the past and currently written books SET in the past! Some of those classics are difficult reading! ๐
Nice work! I’ve enjoyed some of these.
The cover of The Girl with the Pearl Earring always reminds me of Muskrat Ramble by Mim Eichmann. I believe she used her ballet students for her covers, but it’s a similar expression that echoes for me.
Interesting!
