Top 5 Bookish Podcasts

A few have asked where I get my book recommendations. Bookish Podcasts is one way. Today I’m sharing my top 5 never-miss-an-episode bookish podcasts.

My reading tastes don’t always align with the hosts, but I appreciate their thoughtful comments, honest opinions, and reflections.

(in no particular order)

I love the way Sarah and her guests talk about and review books. One of my most memorable books of 2024 came to me as a result of this episode.
Every other Wednesday.

Even though our reading tastes frequently differ, I appreciate the quality of reviews the hosts provide. One of the hosts brings a lot of mystery and murder, so if that’s your jam you will love this podcast. The hosts bring just enough variety that holds my interest. (I admit to skimming though the “murder” content!). I discovered Sipsworth because of this podcast.
Every Monday.

This was the first bookish podcast I listened to regularly. I love the format of three books you loved, one you didn’t + recommendations based on titles. I’m also a member of the lively and active Modern Mrs. Darcey online book club community (paid membership). The podcast reflects the reading tastes of individual weekly guests and sometimes they match my own and at times they don’t. I still love the book discussions. Anne makes an effort to bring a variety of guests with different reading tastes.
Every Tuesday.

I love the casual and chatty book talk in this podcast by the owner (and occasional staff) of The Bookshelf, an independent bookstore in Thomasville, GA. Even though Annie loves quiet character-driven stories, unlikable characters, and dysfunctional family stories that are not my taste, I love her charming podcast. I’m loyal because she loves A Place For Us!
Every Thursday.

My newest favorite. I love the smart book talk and excellent interviews.
Random schedule.

There are others that I check in on and listen to selected episodes. These 5 are in my regular rotation.

What’s your favorite bookish podcast? If you’ve never listened to a book review podcast, I recommend starting with one of these!

    • I save them for running errands or waiting in school pick up lines when collecting a grandchild! Or when my husband is watching football and I happen to be in between books!

  1. Thank you for sharing these. I used to listen to What I Should Read next but her recommendations havenโ€™t matched my reading in some time. I felt like she used to offer a wide variety but I feel she leans way more towards literary fiction now or that I hear about the same books multiple times. I know that itโ€™s my preference and not her because she certainly puts a lot of effort into what she does.

    • My tastes differ from hers more every year. She isnโ€™t always clear about specific content warnings and gives general warnings like โ€œCW applyโ€โ€ฆ.just tell me!
I enjoy the variety of guests though! Thanks for commenting!
