Novellas in November 2024

Today, I’m wrapping up my reading for Novellas in November 2024 hosted by Cathy @ 746 Books and Rebecca @ Bookish Beck. I read six novellas in November and seven more during the year for a total of thirteen in 2024. My November favorite was The Answer is No. (Another fav of the year is Sipsworth.) There were three on my 2024 novellas TBR that I didn’t get to and will hold over for next year.

Did you read novellas in November?

(NovNov24 Buddy Read, on the shortlist for the Booker Prize)
Well…this was disappointing. I attempted to read this via audio which was a mistake. I ended up DNFing it because I kept falling asleep….even when I was driving and fully alert, it wasn’t holding my interest. I was going to try again in print (which I think would be the best format), but then it beat out James for the Booker Prize which annoyed me. So I might never get back to it.

(short story….free in Nov for Amazon Prime members)
Loved it! Favorite novella of November. Classic, quirky, humorous Backman!

(short story)….free in Nov for Amazon Prime Members)
Enjoyable women’s fiction/romance (closed door)

(Character-driven Literary Fiction)
Meh (2 Stars). I loved The Red Notebook (5 Stars) more.

(ARC…travel memoir)
Interesting! This is an informative read for travelers headed that way!

(hummm….Amazon describes this as a novella but it’s 280 pages….I’ll still count it because Christmas)
Well-told histfic with some thoughtful themes.

November was busier than anticipated and I didn’t get to three titles on my TBR….holdovers for next year.

Other Novellas

I greatly enjoy an occasional novella and find that a novella or short story provides a nice balance and palate cleanser between more dense reads. Sometimes, I simply want to read a complete story in one sitting. A few recent novellas I’ve enjoyed include:
Sipsworth, The Red Notebook, A Christmas Memory, Parnassus on Wheels, Foster, Signal Moon, Small Things Like These, Maureen (spin-off of The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry), A Vicarage Christmas, Christmas in Briarwood, Ethan Frome, A Single Rose, Open Water, The Story of My Life by Helen Keller, The House on Mango Street, Love & Saffron (stretching the definition at 206 pages), And Every Morning the Way Home Gets Longer and Longer, The Deal of a Lifetime (short story length), The Redhead By the Side of the Road, The Convenience Store Woman, Our Souls at Night, and 84 Charing Cross Road.
