Do you have a histfic with a side of thriller on your bookshelf?
Today for the June #WhatsOnYourBookshelfChallenge I’m focusing on Historical Fiction with a side of Thriller.
First, thrillers are not my go-to genre. I’m an HSP (highly sensitive person/reader) and susceptible to nightmares. However, I don’t mind a side of a gentle thriller as a mashup with another genre.

I think “I Must Betray You” by Ruta Sepetys fits this, too.
I was actually considering it….but second guessed myself. There’s definitely a great deal of tension but I wasn’t quite sure.
BTW…..I edited my post to include it! If we both thought of it, it must fit!

I never thought of it as HistFic with a side of thriller, but I guess I’m a fan because Kate Quinn is one of my favorite authors.
I can’t read a straight thriller so I need to consume it in small measured doses! The Huntress was the first by Quinn where I realized that her stories contain aspects of a thriller! Thanks for commenting and sharing the Quinn love!

Mrs England by Stacy Halls might fit the bill – it has some Gothic elements. The thriller element is very low key so nothing to keep you awake at night.

Hi, Carol – I am also a sensitive reader and screen viewer and have difficulty with horror or violence. I still have nightmares about The Devil in the White City which I read five years ago for book club. I did read The Huntress and could handle that. Maybe there’s hope for me yet! 🙂

I do enjoy Kate Quinn’s books and must look at some of these that I haven’t read yet. I do like some historical fiction with a side of thriller genre. Maybe Karen Brooks fits in??

Carol like you I am muchly affected by scary movies or books. I have never thought of historical fiction (my most favourite genre) having some thriller in it so I have to think about it. Bernie

I love historic fiction and especially when real characters are added into a novel. Like you I’m not really into thrillers but quite enjoy it when it’s mixed into historical fiction. Add WW2 into the mix and that’s a perfect read for me

I think Hist-fic with a thriller edge are my favourite. Kate Quinn is the best at this, I agree. I still have to read The Huntress though.
