Women Authors and Their Debuts

Do you have a favorite debut author?

Too many! Amirite?!

I’m going rogue today with Top Ten Tuesday because I want to acknowledge International Day of the Woman as part of Women’s History Month.

Publishing was a field for men. In publishing history, there was a time when women authors could not get published. Women were not allowed to sign their own contracts, did not receive equal pay, and were forced to write under pseudonyms. For International Day of the Woman, I’m focusing on modern women authors and their debuts as we celebrate those who fought hard for the right to be heard, sign their own contracts, and publish under their own name for equal pay.

  1. Great theme! I’ve only read Elinor Oliphant (and yes, I loved it) but have many of the others on my list. I confess I don’t pay much attention to whether a novel is a debut or not, but it’s true that a success can make a writer’s career at that point, and underrepresented authors need our support. I’ll have to keep that in mind.

    • I don’t always pay attention either, but I tend to notice more when debuts are so impressive like these! Thanks for commenting!

    • I wonder if it is realistic for the fbi to use teenagers as CIs. I watch the FBI series on tv and some of their CIs are young!

  2. I love a good debut! Firekeeper’s Daughter blew me away and Homegoing will always be a favourite.

You know how much I mean to read The Girl With the Louding Voice! I have also has A Place For Us on my shelves since it came out!!

  3. I do love reading debuts, but it’s always interesting to see which ones end up being favorites and which don’t. Cassidy Clarke’s debut is one of my absolute favorite books!

  4. You already know how much I love Girl With the Louding Voice. 🙂 Homegoing was good too – I’m looking forward to reading her most recent book.
