Winter Reading Season TBR (2021-2022) #TopTenTuesday

For winter, most of the titles on my TBR are a result of the wonderful recommendations I receive from fellow bloggers, back list books that I’ve been meaning to read, and ARCs (advanced reader copies). Sadly, my most highly anticipated 2022 release, The Winners by Fredrik Backman (Beartown #3), won’t be available in the U.S. until September.
I never plan more than ten titles for my quarterly TBR lists because I need to leave time for mood reading and review commitments. These ten books are a priority on a much longer general TBR.
What is your most anticipated read this winter?
I’m linking up today with That Artsy Reader Girl for Top Ten Tuesday: Winter To Read List.
Winter 2021-2022 TBR
Home by Marilynne Robinson
After reading Gilead this year, I want to read the other three books in the loosely connected series.
***UPDATE: 4.5 Stars. Review coming soon.
The Joy and Light Bus Company by Alexander McCall Smith
(I’ve read all 21 in the series, so can’t miss the newest….holdover from fall TBR)
I love this gentle series!
***UPDATE: 3 Stars. I enjoyed this installment. A nice brain break.
Still Life by Sarah Winman
Thanks for the rec Mailread @ Swirl and Thread Blog
The Winter Garden by Heidi Swain
(hold over from last year….my library never obtained it…so I’ll need to purchase it)
This Christmas romance is a rec from Jo at The Book Jotter.
The Woman They Could Not Silence: One Woman, Her Incredible Fight For Freedom, and the Men Who Tried To Make Her Disappear by Kate Moore
Thanks to Shelleyrae at Book’d Out for the rec during nonfiction November!
***UPDATE: 4 Stars. Interesting and Unimaginable. Review coming soon.
I Have Been Assigned the Single Bird by Susan Cerulean
(another one my library doesn’t have…..hold over from last year…I’ll need to make a purchase)
This NF memoir is a rec from Annie B. Jones @ From the Front Porch podcast.
Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can’t Stop Talking by Susan Cain
Thanks to Kristin @ Kristin Kraves Books for reminding me (again!) that I have been wanting to read this one!
***UPDATE: 4 Stars. I feel SEEN! Review coming soon.
The Book Woman’s Daughter by Kim Michele Richardson (ARC)
(ARC: PUb Date: May 3, 2022)
I was THRILLED to receive an ARC for the followup to The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek! I should technically wait until spring to read this, but I know I won’t be able to wait!
The Last Grand Duchess by Bryn Turnbull (ARC)
(ARC: Pub Date: 2/8/2022)
It’s difficult to resist a book about the Romanovs.
***UPDATE: 5 Stars. Well written and researched. Review coming 2/7/2022.
Mrs. England by Stacey Halls (ARC)
(ARC: Pub Date: 4/12/2022)
This looks intriguing!

Happy Reading Book Buddies!
“Ah, how good it is to be among people who are reading.”
~Rainer Maria Rilke
“I love the world of words, where life and literature connect.”
~Denise J Hughes
“Reading good books ruins you for enjoying bad ones.”
~Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society
“I read because books are a form of transportation, of teaching, and of connection! Books take us to places we’ve never been, they teach us about our world, and they help us to understand human experience.”

Love finding your potential book lists Carol!! Taking notes here… Also midway through The Guest Book. I can’t remember – have you read/reviewed it?? Historical fiction, relatable characters meet social issues. Really liking it.
Thanks for stopping by! I haven’t read The Guest Book. Thanks for the rec Rhonda!
Lots of great selections, enjoy!
Thanks!
A great mix of books Carol. I have The Women They Couldn’t Silence and Bookwoman’s Daughter on my TBR, so will probably get to them in the first 3 months of the year, but we shall see. Enjoy!
Eager for the Book Woman!
I have just been given Still Life for my birthday (at my request) so will read it over our summer holidays! Great list Carol.
I hope we both enjoy it! 🙌
I had way more Christmas books than I could possibly read. Yesterday I just accepted that I couldn’t read them all and have a festive fiction feature going out tomorrow!
So many books so little time!
This is a fascinating list Carol and I have read one of them. I haven’t set out in stone what my winter reading plan is to be fair.
Thanks Cathy! I’m an incorrigible mood reader so we’ll see how it goes!
Nice list, Carol. I want to read “Gilead” so I’m glad you enjoyed it.
And yet another No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency book. I have “only” read 17 so far, so I’ll have some catching up to do. LOL
My TTT is a TTTT this week.
Thanks Marianne! Marilynne Robinson is a fabulous writer! Enjoy!
Some of the Ladies Detective books I enjoy more than others….but it’s always a treat to visit the characters!
Thanks, Carol. I’m sure I will once I eventually get to her book.
I totally agree with you about the Ladies … Sometimes, Mma Makutsi is just too full of herself for my liking.
They all look great Carol hope you enjoy them!
Thanks Nicki! 🙌
Quiet was an excellent read! Enjoy.
My post: https://lydiaschoch.com/top-ten-tuesday-books-on-my-winter-2021-to-read-list/
Thanks! It’s been on my TBR for years! 😂
I’m looking forward to The Book Woman’s Daughter too… and I still need to read my copy of Quiet! Hope you enjoy all of these.
My TTT
I hop we both love the new Book Woman! Quiet has been on my TBR for years! I’m determined this time!
I have a TBR list, but not seasonally. I view it as more of a “if I can’t think of something I want to read list”. For some reason if I give myself a specific list of books to read, then I no longer want to read those books. I guess I am just a very moody reader🙂.
I am currently reading Anxious People by Fredrick Backman. I read Beartown last year. The Bookwoman of Troublesome Creek is on that list of mine. I didn’t know a sequel was coming out. That is exciting. Quiet is also on that list. I am working my way through The No. 1 Ladies series – it’s a great one.
Even though I don’t make lists for myself, I enjoy seeing the lists of others. Thanks for sharing yours, Carol!
I’m an incorrigible mood reader and hold these lists lightly (except for ARCs)! I also think of my TBR as a list of possibilities! Quiet has been on and off my TBR for years!
I loved the ending of Anxious People! I know you’ll enjoy Book Woman!
Thanks for stopping by and commenting Gretchen!
I do have a TBR list, but I think of it as more of a “if I can’t think of something I want to read list”. For some reason as soon as I give myself a list of books to read, those are the last books I want to read🙂. I am just a moody reader I guess.
I am also working my way through the Marilynne Robinson series and the No. 1 Ladies Detective series. The Bookwoman of Troublesome Creek is on my list. I didn’t know there was a sequel coming out. That is exciting.
I always enjoy seeing TBR lists even if I don’t make my own. Thanks for sharing yours. Have a Merry Christmas!
I discovered Marilynne Robinson just this year and I loved Gilead! So eager to read the other three! You’ll love Book Woman! Merry Christmas!
Sorry about the double message, Carol. The first one disappeared and I didn’t realize it had gone through 🙄.
No worries! It gave us a chance to chat twice! 🙌😍
A good mix of books, none of which I’ve read! I just picked up Mrs England from the library – sounds interesting. I had no idea the Ladies’ Detective Agency series was still going; I read and enjoyed the first three but then they lost their appeal.
I’m a die hard completist so I read the new Ladies’ Detective installment every year. Some are definitely better than others. But it’s a nice brain break/comfort read!
These all look so interesting! I’ve read Kate Moore’s other book, The Radium Girls. I liked it and should probably pick up more of her stuff.
I haven’t read Radium Girls….thanks for the rec!
I’m looking forward to the Romanov book too! I love well researched historical fiction on them!
I hope we both enjoy it! 🙌
I’m interested to hear your thoughts on Quiet! I have also had that one on my tbr for ages!
I must conquer it this year! I’ve read only good reviews so I’m eager to get started! It’s one that I may buy so that I can read it in chunks over a period of time.
