“Courage. Kindness. Friendship. Character. These are the qualities that define us as human beings, and propel us, on occasion, to greatness.”
~ Wonder, R.J. Palacio
“Reading is going somewhere without ever taking a train or ship, an unveiling of new incredible worlds. It’s living a life you weren’t born into and a chance to see something colored by someone else’s perspective. It’s learning without having to face consequences of failures, and how best to succeed.”
~ The Last Bookshop in London, Madeline Martin
“Of all my mistakes, the greatest, the most dangerous, was not emphasizing the mercy of God.” ~Rafiq
~ A Place For Us, Fatima Farheen Mirza
“I am well in body although considerable rumpled up in spirit, thank you ma’am,” said Anne gravely.
~ Anne of Green Gables, L.M. Montgomery
(Pandemic appropriate!)
“In your dark night, I urge you to hold to your faith, to embrace hope, and to bear your love before you like a burning candle, for I promise it will light your way.”
~ Ordinary Grace, William Kent Krueger
“Healing isn’t about recovery, it’s about discovery. Discovering hope in hopelessness, discovering an answer when there doesn’t seem to be one, discovering that it’s not what happens that matters–it’s what you do with it.”
~ The Choice: Embrace the Possible, Dr. Edith Eva Eger
“I can’t heal you–or anyone–but I can celebrate your choice to dismantle the prison in your mind, brick by brick. You can’t change what happened, you can’t change what you did or what was done to you. But you can choose how you live now. My precious, you can choose to be free.”
~ The Choice: Embrace the Possible, Dr. Edith Eva Eger
“We can’t change the world, and a lot of the time we can’t even change people. No more than one bit at a time. So we do what we can to help whenever we get the chance. We save those we can. We do our best.”
~ Anxious People, Fredrik Backman
“There is no charm equal to tenderness of heart.”
~ Emma, Jane Austen
“This is the only perfection there is. The perfection of helping others. This is the only thing we can do that has any lasting value or meaning. This is why we’re here, to make each other feel safe.”
~ Open, Andre Agassi
“The world was hers for the reading.”
~ A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, Betty Smith
“A good education and a kind heart will serve you well throughout your entire life.”
~ The Answer is…., Alex Trebek
Bonus: I Must Include My Very Favorite!
“Reading good books ruins you for enjoying bad ones.”
~ Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, Mary Ann Shaffer

~Denise J Hughes

~Madeleine Riley, Top Shelf Text

Two Edith Eger quotes in there. What a remarkable lady she is. Love the Shaffer too. Thank you for this.
You’re welcome! Yes! The Eger quotes are lovely!
I think that quote from Emma is my favorite. I should go re-read all the Austen books, there are so many snippets that are worth savoring again.
It’s a lovely and memorable quote!
A good education and a kind heart definitely will serve you well!

Oh yes, Carol, I am a huge quote collector, as you probably know. Therefore, my TTT shows readers on the covers this week. LOL.
I’m hopping over now to read your post!
I used to keep notebooks of quotes! I’ll have to check them out again, quotes can be powerful.
I write them down and then I can’t remember where I put them! I need a designated notebook!
That quote about healing is perfect.

Anne Shirley always has the best lines!
I agree! Delightful!
The Last Bookshop in London, quote is so lovely, very true
Thanks! I’m happy you love it, too!
That Anne of Green Gables quote is everything.
I went off-topic this week: https://fiftytwo.blog/2021/11/09/ttt-books-you-recommend-the-most/
Happy TTT!

I adore Anne! I’m heading over now to read your post!
Inspiring selection, Carol. My favourite is ‘The world was hers for the reading.’ ❤📚
Thanks Sandy!
I love Anne Shirley! I quoted her today, too. She has some really fantastic lines, especially in the first book.
Happy TTT!

Thanks so much!
Am I a quote collector? Not at all so I ducked out of this weeks topic. Without looking back over past reviews I could recall only about five memorable quotes
One of my reading goals this year is to TRY to write down quotes and keep them in ONE place…,2 separate skills! 😂 I managed to keep track of these by creating a WP draft (because I know this topic comes up once a year!) and adding to it when I come across a quote.
What a good idea, you are so much more organised and methodical than I am
Chock it up to retirement and time on my hands! 😂
Yes….. BUT I am also retired and yet still get to the end of the day and think of all the things I didn’t get done
😂😂😂 I just neglect the other things! 😂😂😂
But love has to be stronger than hate, or there is no future for us. The Nightingale (one of my favorite books ever!)
I love book quotes! In our small book club, we share our favorites from each book and I type them up once a year for each of us. It’s really great to look back at them. Fredric Backman books are full of them.
What a lovely idea for your book club! And, yes, Backman is so quotable! Next time, I need to include one from him! Thanks for commenting Virginia!
The quote about good books ruining bad books is so true!
Here are some of my favourites

Thanks for commenting and sharing the quote love! I’m heading over now to read your post!
I always say I’m going to collect quotes and then never do.
One of my favorites is:
“I have lived a thousand lives and I have loved a thousand loves. I’ve walked on distant worlds and seen the end of time. Because I read.”
–George R.R. Martin
This is a lovely quote! I been trying to be more disciplined in writing them down (in one place!) and saving them!
Great selection Carol, it’s so hard to narrow down my favourite quotes. Just this morning I copied this one from Richard Osman’s The Man Who Died Twice – ‘Some people in life, Sue, are weather forecasters, whereas other people are the weather itself’. It really appealed to me!
Oh this is a fun quote Debbie! Thanks for sharing!
These are good quotes!
Thanks!
These are amazing quotes Carol. They certainly make you think. Thanks for the shout out.
You’re welcome Carla! Glad you enjoyed them!
