My Summary:

A Place Like Home is a collection of fifteen short stories by popular author, Rosamunde Pilcher (most likely your mother’s favorite author!). These stories were published in magazines and are now in book form for the first time. Each one explores different romantic stories (chaste) between couples that are married or courting or meeting for the first time (insta-love).  All are poignant and quietly told with Pilcher’s trademark skill for describing time and place.

My Thoughts:

For Pilcher Fans: I think fans of Rosamunde Pilcher (The Shell Seekers, Coming Home) will enjoy this short story collection.

A Quiet Read: I imagine that younger readers or modern readers who enjoy open-door romance might find these stories a bit dated and tame. Each is quietly and warmly written with mostly open-ended and hopeful (HEA) endings that you can definitely imagine in that time and place.

Perfect For….. A Place Like Home would be perfect for readers who desire a quiet, stress-free, and short read. Wonderful short stories before bedtime or while recovering from an injury or operation or quietly sitting by the fire with a cup of tea. Fans of Rosamunde Pilcher will especially enjoy her warmly written, gently told, character-driven, and descriptive short stories. If you’re looking for a book gift for someone who prefers women’s fiction with no profanity, sex, suspense, or violence, this might be perfect.

Audio: I did listen to this on audio and each narrator added enjoyment to the story.

Meet the Author, Rosamunde Pilcher

Rosamunde Pilcher, OBE (née Scott; born 22 September 1924) is a British writer of several short-stories and 28 romance novels and mainstream women’s fiction from 1949 to 2000, when she retired from writing. Early in her career she was also published under the pen name Jane Fraser.
