My Summary:

#2 in the Cornish Midwives series. The highly anticipated wedding of Anna and Brae needs to be postponed due to a fire at the venue. However, close friends and community pull together to save the wedding.

When I requested the ARC for A Summer Wedding For the Cornish Midwife and realized it was #2 in a series, I knew I wanted to read the first story before starting this. It may not have been necessary, but having the full context always adds to a more satisfying reading experience. The first book is called The Cornish Midwife and we are introduced to the group of amazing midwives and the charming, small community of St. Agnes along the Cornish coast. The stories revolve around a group of midwives…..and so far each story focuses on one of the midwives. Of the two stories, I think I enjoyed the first a bit more because of its compelling story line and themes of starting over and second chances.

Recommended: A Summer Wedding For a Cornish Midwife is an uplifting, engaging, and heartwarming read. Even with a few difficult themes, the story has an overall lighthearted, everything-will-work-out feel. A solid story (and series) for those looking for a light women’s fiction romance and for those interested in midwifery. I love a quaint, small-town setting (especially on the coast), a supportive community, amazing book boyfriends, and strong friendships. This was a perfect light read for me and I’m looking forward to the third installment.

Content Consideration: infertility, grief, traumatic childbirth (baby born with a physical deformity)

Meet the Author, Jo Bartlett

Author Jo BartlettI was born a stone’s throw from the English Channel and I still live near the sea in Kent, with my own family – so close to the South Eastern edge of England that we’re very nearly French – and it’s probably why so many of my books are set near the sea too. I’ve made up stories for as long as I can remember, but never really took it any further. Concentrating on my career and family, writing went on the back burner until a catalyst called cancer gave me a major kick up the proverbial. I decided I was going to write that novel after all.

Since having my debut novel published in 2015, things have happened quite quickly and I have recently released my nineteenth novel. I’ve been able to fulfill a childhood dream of walking into WHSmiths and buying a book with my name on it and I still find it almost impossible to believe that my books have been bestsellers on Amazon too. I write contemporary women’s fiction, with a focus on love, friendship, family, and community, when I’m not knee-deep in assignments at the university where I still teach part-time. My first novel from Boldwood Books ‘The Cornish Midwife’ is now available on Amazon, with the second book in the series ‘A Summer Wedding for the Cornish Midwife’ available for pre-order.

Having recently signed a twelve-book deal with Boldwood Books, my ambition to drink tea and make stuff up on a full-time basis is ever closer.   3. I’m another person who hates to read a book out of order in a series. I recently won a book in a GoodReads giveaway, only to realize it was book number twp. Imagine how happy I was that the first book was in the Amazon Prime reading library for free!

  9. I have not read any books with main characters who are midwives but have always wanted to. I will see if this series is available through my library. You know I often jump in mid-series, but I will see if I can find the first. It sounds like a nice mix to the stories with the wedding and romance aspect to balance out the serious and sadder aspects. Nice review Carol.

  11. […] This is a 4 book women’s fiction series and I’ve read all the installments. They can be read as stand-alones, but reading in publication order adds a richer context to the stories. Thoughtful themes (some intense content) that run through the stories include friendship, women supporting women, childbirth, and community.
