My Summary:
“Her Majesty the Queen Investigates…”
The Windsor Knot is the first book in a cozy crime series in which Queen Elizabeth secretly solves crimes. In this story, a young Russian pianist appears to have committed suicide during a “dine and sleep” event at Windsor Castle. MI5 suspects foul play. Frustrated with their investigation, Queen Elizabeth with the help of her competent British Nigerian assistant private secretary begins to make discrete inquiries. The Queen is an excellent observer, an insightful problem solver, and a good judge of character. Soon, she has gathered critical information to tip off one of the investigators. No one suspects that it’s actually the Queen herself who has found the critical evidence and solved the mystery.

My Thoughts:
I appreciate The Windsor Knot for providing a witty and perfect palate cleanser in between my recent stack of complex and dense historical fiction. I can also imagine that Queen Elizabeth herself might find this a charming read!
What I loved:
- smart writing and unique premise
- a (mostly) cozy mystery and a light, entertaining read
- highly imaginative
- the portrayal of Queen Elizabeth as no-nonsense, clever, secretive, and quick-witted
- quick and easy reading…great choice for a vacation or weekend read
Recommended: I’m certainly recommending The Windsor Knot for fans of cozy mystery; for those looking for a unique, light, and imaginative read; for readers who love the Royal Family; and for book clubs.
Content Consideration: reference to a suspected suicide by hanging.
My Rating: 4 Stars

Meet the Author, S.J. Bennett
SJ Bennett wrote several award-winning books for teenagers before turning to adult crime novels. She lives in London and has been a royal watcher for years, but is keen to stress that these are works of fiction: the Queen, to the best of her knowledge, does not secretly solve crimes.

Sounds interesting, Carol! I am certainly a lover of cozy mysteries. I would think the Queen would make a good investigator!
I am currently reading A Royal Affair by Allison Montclair which is also about Queen Elizabeth, but when she was a princess. She is not the investigator, but the amateur sleuths are vetting Prince Philip on behalf of the royal family.
I love a fun read!

Carol, it was fun to see your review today. I just started the second book, All The Queen’s Men, on audio this morning. I agree that they are a fun light read. Have you read any further into the series?
I have not continued with the series. I asked myself that same question when I prepared this post! Happy summer reading!
