Top Ten Tuesday: 10 Books on My Summer 2020 TBR

I’m linking up today with That Artsy Reader Girl: Top Ten Tuesday: 10 Books on My Summer 2020 TBR.

With all the books that are on my radar on a given day, it’s nice to pick out a few for an official TBR. Ten still leaves room for library holds that come in, occasional ARCs, or some mood reading.

One question you may ask is “Are these beach reads?” Many readers have differing opinions of what comprises a beach read: some want light and fluffy, some look for thrillers/suspense/mysteries, some seek out escapist reads, while others like to tackle large tomes or serious content during the summer when they have more time. It’s my opinion that any book you read at the beach is a beach read (just like any body at the beach is a beach body). For my summer reads, I look for the types of books I look for all year: memorable, thought-provoking, and unputdownable.

Keep in mind that I’m not yet recommending the books on this list…..check back often though because I will provide updates and links to reviews as I read them. For now, these are the reads that are on my summer 2020 reading radar.

  3. Great list, Carol! I’ll be looking forward to your reviews. Somehow, I’d completely missed that Fredrik Backman has a new one coming, and Book Girl has been on my shelf for ages. Maybe I’ll read it this summer, as well. Louise Penny is an automatic preorder for me, so that’s a done deal. I’m also looking forward to hearing what you have to say about Latasha Morrison’s book.

  4. I hope you enjoy all of these books. And, yes, beach reads can look like wildly different things depending on the reader’s preferences. I personally like to read spooky ghost stories as beach reads. There’s something delightful about reading something a little dark on a hot, humid day. 🙂

    • Reading ghost stories at the beach sounds perfect! 😂😂😂 I can already picture it! Have you read The Beautiful Strangers? It has a ghost and is set at the beach! Not scary though. Happy reading!

  7. So glad to get your list Carol!! I wrote several down on my list to track down. You let me in on 2 new Fredrick Backman books!! hooray! I just finished Americanah– have you read it?? Nigerian immigrants and their views of the world outside Nigeria– plus a complicated love story. The Fullerton Library has opened up fo curbside service so that’s a relief! But they are not part of the Orange Country system– so they don’t have newer books available. In the risk/benefit analysis of getting out, we’re not going to restaurants to eat, but if the Brea library opened, I’d take the plunge!! OK, thanks again for always being a reliable source of worthwhile books!! xo

    • Yes I did read Americanah. I loved the reflections and observations…but the love story not so much. I’m happy to hear you have curbside service! I get all my library books through Libby. I think I’d feel safe going into a library. But not into restaurants! We order curbside pickup occasionally and use drive through sometimes….but it’s a hassle to sanitize! I ventured into Home Depot last weekend to get a few things…my first time going into a store. I have been ordering groceries from Walmart pickup. I also got my hair cut. We’re in this for the long haul so we have to get used to doing certain necessary activities safely I guess. Our first strategy is to stay home though. Thanks for commenting Rhonda!   9. There are some cheerful books on your list. Simon the Fiddler, The Salt Path, Be the Bridge and The Mountains Sing seem to be the most interesting ones for me, though.
