Before we get to the book talk, I’m curious if you are in isolation at home due to Covid 19 or are you an essential worker? Most of my family and I are at home. We do have four essential workers (three medical) in our family that we cover in prayer. God Bless the nurses and doctors, grocery store staff, and other essential workers!

Honestly, it’s been a little difficult to read with an anxious mind. Have you been finding it difficult to focus on reading? How are you practicing self-care? I discovered that I need lighter reads right now which will likely play havoc with my Spring TBR. This Top Ten topic listing the obvious signs that I’m a book lover is interesting because I’m definitely well prepared for isolation. Stay safe everyone! Wash your hands and don’t touch your face!

You know I’m a Book Lover because the first question I’ll ask you is “What are you reading now?” or “What is the best book you’ve read this year?” or another book-related question. My favorite topic is books and I’m prepared to use extreme tactics to steer the discussion in that direction.

You know I’m a Book Lover because you will always see me reading on my Kindle app in any waiting room or checkout line. I look forward to driving so that I can listen to an audio book. In fact, I’m never bored because I can always read!

You know I’m a Book Lover because I stay up way too late reading (and writing reviews). An additional sign that I’m a Book Lover is that I love to read “books about books”!

You know I’m a Book Lover because I read everything from cereal boxes to license plates to bumper stickers to billboards. I’m also notorious for peeking at what others are reading in public places, and I’m not shy about striking up a book conversation!

 

You know I’m a Book Lover because a bookstore is a favorite destination and books are my favorite gifts to give. Walking into a bookstore feels like greeting old friends. You will observe me lovingly and lightly touching the covers of favorite reads as I pass display tables and thinking “Ahhh, I loved this one!”

You know I’m a Book Lover because books are involved in my favorite childhood memories: I remember with great clarity the joy I felt upon receiving my very own book that didn’t need to be returned to the library (I still remember the title: Penny Nicholas and the Black Imp), and a highlight of my childhood is reading a certain poem in an illustrated children’s anthology a million times! I loved the illustration and words and imaged myself in that scene as I read.

You know I’m a Book Lover because the advanced literature class I took in high school was one of my easiest courses (while others struggled) and one of my favorite classes in college was a children’s literature class which gave me a chance to catch up on classics I had missed as a child.

Finally, the most obvious way that you will know I’m a Book Lover is because if you ask me for a recommendation, I am ready to offer you ten, or twenty, or one hundred!

I’m also notorious for peeking at what others are reading in public places”. I’m still working on the striking a conversation part, but no doubt I’ll get there. 😁

    Personally, I think another mark of a bookworm is owning far more books than you can possibly read—and when a non-bookworm asks why you keep on buying books when you haven’t read everything in your collection, you’ll just give them a dirty look, lol. I suppose only fellow bookworms can understand!

    • I cheat and use an app to compile an image of a complementary background and book cover. Check my feed to see examples. I rarely take pictures. I can take pictures but I’d rather read than mess with all the props!

  12. Lovely post! Most of these are also applicable to me, especially reading every print in vicinity and being curious about what other people are reading. Sometimes travelling in subway I will be so curious about a book someone’s reading I would get closer and closer to them to know the title which is hidden from me – what others are reading is my ultimate obsession lol 🙂

    • Right? I love reading on kindle but it’s impossible to tell what others are reading! I’m pretty skilled at glimpsing a spine! It is an obsession!!! 😂😂😂

      • Right! It sounds bad, but my curiosity is sometimes so strong I am thinking that probably I should snatch the books from them and start reading them myself immediately – perhaps they are something that good! hehe

  15. Hi Carol!! Yep, I think this pretty much describes you and lots of book lovers I know! Just finished How I Finally Won the War (you go me started on those books!). SO good! I packaged it up today and mailed it up to the 3 grand-girls! Loved Ada and there was so much action, so much growth in all the characters. Mature themes set just right for young readers. — And wanted to tell you about our Lit Group who hasn’t missed a month meeting in 35 years! So this month 16 of us are doing a round robin email with blurbs about books we’ve read this month. And offering any of those books we have on hand– If someone wants a book they email back and we just leave it in a bag on our porch to be picked up! Our own little circulating library! This was sure a fun post! thanks!

    • Thanks Rhonda! I thought when you started telling me about your book club that you were going to say you all had a zoom meeting or Skyped or something! But your circulating library idea is fun! It reminds me of another type of book club I’ve heard about….a literary club where, instead of discussing one book, members go around the room and share something from their current read. A literary discussion. It sound like you have migrated to a literary club this month! I hope we get to return to our normal lives soon! I know I’ll feel so grateful for simple pleasures! I’m so happy you loved the war books! And that you can share them with the grands! So fun! I loved the theme of hospitality in the second one! Stay safe friend! Aren’t you glad we’re readers during this time?!

  19. I qualify as a book lover! However, I might add that one more sign is the seven filled-with-books bookcases that grace my home. I love visitors to see what we read in our family. I enjoy looking over the titles and rereading sections.

    • Hi Karen!!! Thanks for visiting my blog! Yes, I would have added overladen bookshelves as a sign….but sadly that is not the case for me as I’ve made the switch to digital and found other homes for my beloved book collection. I miss those books every day! My fav thing to do when I visit someone’s house is browse the titles on their bookshelves! Thanks for taking a moment to comment!
