Popular Books Worth the Hype

I realize that no two readers read the same book and that a title on my list for deserving the hype might be on your list for not deserving the hype! The following are books that I connected with emotionally and left me thinking “wow!” In no particular order, these are ten books (recent reads and fairly recent releases) that in my opinion are worth the hype (titles are links to my reviews):

Looks like I just created your winter TBR! 😂😂😂 I did like Beekeeper…. it’s hauntingly beautiful as it deeply explores trauma, grief, refugee status, ptsd, etc… I do think Ask Again Yes has good book club discussion possibilities! Enjoy!
Excellent! I have been pondering suggesting it for some time now. Do you think Beekeeper… would make a good book club read?
I constructed a longish response and I got a phone call and it was gone when I came back…..I don’t have a sent notification…..so here’s the bottom line…..it’s a sad read (but not without hope and healing) …. content warnings include death of a child, some war atrocities, and ptsd. It is written like a memoir and the most difficult parts of the story are told as flashbacks which make it easier to read because you know they are alive in the present day timeline. It’s interesting that the story is inspired by the author’s personal experience as a volunteer for UNICEF at a refugee camp in Athens. It’s a tenderly told story and the author’s care for the characters is evident. I would make sure book club members can handle heavier stories.

Does your book club usually go for lighter reads!
I am new to this group and have missed the past couple of months due to health, but it sounds like they want more thought provoking books than they have been reading. I have a few books in mind to suggest when we meet in January that I think will fit the bill. January’s read is Before We Were Yours. I read it when it first came out and loved it. I’m really excited to see what they think!

P.s. I just noticed a review of this on insta and she mentioned that the transitions between timelines was sometimes confusing….I have to agree! At times I’d be reading along and realize that I wasn’t in the timeline I thought I was in! After that happened a few times I was more focused in my reading!
Of the books I have read on this list I 100% agree with you. Ask Again, Yes, The Book Woman, and Finding Chika were all incredible! So many of the others are on my TBR!

The only book on this list I’ve read is A Place For Us and I didn’t like it 🙁 But I’m one of the few people I know who didn’t. I have Ask Again, Yes on my TBR and am going to check out your reviews. Hopefully I can add lots to my list!

I haven’t heard of any of these books. But now I’m intrigued about them. Usually, I avoid books that have a ton of hype around them, but sometimes the hype is correct.

I’ve not even heard of most of these, with the exception of The Beekeeper of Aleppo which I have a copy of but haven’t been sure I wanted to read it – the more hype a book gets, the less I want to read it 🙂 . Shall check out your review now that you’ve said its worth all the hype
