What qualities are important to consider when deciding on an auto-buy or auto-read author?
Books from auto-buy or auto-read authors are ones I’m likely to preorder or request from the library before publication day. They are books that don’t require a great deal of research or contemplation. I know I’m going to want to read the new release to see for myself. These are authors that I’ve grown to trust. I have a mental list of several auto-buy or auto-read authors including Fredrik Backman, Kate Quinn, Ruta Sepetys, Stephanie Dray/Laura Kamoie, Louise Penney, Doris Kearns Goodwin, Mitch Albom, etc. etc.
This is not the only way I choose a book, but certain authors are irresistible! In today’s Thanksgiving-focused post, I’m listing 10 reasons I’m thankful for Fredrik Backman and his work.

The new book is out in Sweden…..anticipating an English translation in 2020! Did you read Things I Need My Son to Know? The last chapter in that essay collection speaks of being in the wrong place at the wrong time and getting shot during a robbery…..triggering some debilitating anxiety. I was surprised to hear it is fiction and not nonfiction. It should be good! Still waiting on the 3rd Beartown book too! Thanks for commenting!

He’s on my list! I have auto-read authors. I’m a librarian so pay does not stretch to too many purchases, but I love his books. JoJo Moyes is another and there are several more! Good post.

Oh goodness, I have quite a few authors that are auto-reads for me. Admittedly not always auto-buy but there is a list of people that every time I see one of their books I know I’ll enjoy it. I haven’t heard of this author before but the covers are gorgeous – definitely one to check out!
I have quite a list too! Re Backman, start with Ove or Britt or one of his novellas to see what you think. Beartown is great, too, but grittier. Thanks for commenting!

Bakman is a good one for sure. I have several go-to’s/ auto buy. Anne Tyler is one that definitely comes to mind.

Wow. I love it.
When I started rigorous reading, I had a favorite author John C. Maxwell. Then when I met him in person he told me that each author is like a mentor, and I should never have one mentor. He continued, ‘You can never say that you have one mentor unless you are not growing. As you grow, you conquer new heights. Each author helps chisel away something from each mountain and obstacle on your journey to freedom.’ With that said, my favorite author list is bulky. I have never heard of this author before – could it be because am a nonfiction stickler?
I agree with this quote! There’s much to learn from a variety of authors! I have a long list of favs too, but Backman is near the top! If you decide to give him a try let me know how it goes! Thanks for commenting!
