I’m linking up today with That Artsy Reader Girl: Top Ten Tuesday: 10 Books on My Summer 2019 TBR.

With all the books that are on my radar on a given day, it’s nice to pick out a few for an official TBR. Ten still leaves room for library holds that come in, occasional ARCs, or some mood reading.

One question you may ask is “Are these beach reads?” Many readers have differing opinions of what comprises a beach read: some want light and fluffy, some look for thrillers/suspense/mysteries, some seek out escapist reads, while others like to tackle large tomes during the summer when they have more time. It’s my opinion that any book you read at the beach is a beach read (just like any body at the beach is a beach body). For my summer reads, I look for the types of books I look for all year: memorable, thought-provoking, and unputdownable. Although I’m planning a post in a couple of weeks that feature books I’ve read that might be suitable for a vacation or beach read, it will likely look different from other typical beach reads lists.

For now, these are the reads that are on my summer 2019 reading radar.

Keep in mind that I’m not yet recommending the books on this list…..check back often though because I will provide updates and links to reviews as I read them. In no particular order, here is my Summer 2019 TBR list.

A sister pilgrimage to India (contemporary fiction)

Searching For Sylvie Lee

Searching For Sylvie Lee by Jean Kwok

A contemporary mystery involving a Chinese immigrant family (Jenna’s Today Show book club pick)

The Medallion by Cathy Gohlke

High praise for this WW11 histfic title

I don’t usually read science fiction, but I’m willing to give this a try because of the fabulous reviews #FOMO
***UPDATE: 3 Stars. First part was engaging, but the recurring “loop” in the middle becomes a bit tedious. True scifans fans will love it! (no written review)

Consistently good reviews for these two YA titles (I always like to include one or two YA or MG on my seasonal TBR)

Rules For Visiting by Jessica Francis Kane

Mastering the art of visiting sounds delightful when I’m in the mood for a quiet, reflective read

Another title that’s receiving a lot of buzz #FOMO

This story of three unique women in post-Apartheid South Africa comes highly recommended by bookstagrammer @whatmeganreads

  10. Recursion is great. Crouch’s books have opened a whole new genre for me. I think he just keeps getting better and better. If you haven’t read him before try Run (an older book) and also Dark Matter ( his last book).

  11. I’m looking for some new books to read this summer so I will definitely check out some of these. I’ll be interested in reading your reviews. I’m just recovering from depression so I can’t read anything that is harrowing at the moment as it brings my mood down so hopefully some of these will be good. #abitofeverything

  16. Excellent point…. I usually think of beach reads as something quick and captivating but with little substance BUT I guess that is not the widely accepted definition. Whatever you read on the beach/during vacation is a beach read! I recently finished a really excellent book called “Behind the Glass” by Kristen Morgen (https://kristenmorgen.com/) and this definitely took care of my romance itch for the summer. It is a feel good read for the heart and soul and left me feeling hopeful about love (doesn’t happen often). The main character, Rebecca, isn’t some flighty romance obsessed damsel in distress which I also really liked about the book. She is intelligent and down to earth. The book is about the moral dilemma that would happen if you were with a wonderful person but met someone (by chance) that you connected with like no one else. Not only that, what if you kept seeing this person again and again? I definitely recommend this for anyone’s summer TBR pile because it’s well written, realistic, and I couldn’t put it down.
